This initiative represents a major step toward equipping young women with digital knowledge, innovation, and technology-driven opportunities that will prepare them for the future. The excitement and warm reception from the students and the community reflected just how deeply this intervention was needed and appreciated. The Headmistress of the school, Afisata Salia expressed heartfelt gratitude to NASCO Feeding Minds, noting that the school had long been in dire need of digital learning tools and that the girls had been significantly disadvantaged by the absence of ICT infrastructure. She pledged that the facility would be put to excellent and purposeful use. The representative from the Ghana Education Service Regional Office, Mr. Azumah A. James, was visibly impressed, describing the centre as the finest ICT facility in the region, and drawing warm laughter from the audience when he jokingly remarked that the school should expect to see him around, making use of the facility himself. The Wa Municipal Director of Education representative, Mr. Mumuni Abass, warmly endorsed the launch of the Deloitte Digital Skills Training Centre, commending NASCO Feeding Minds and Deloitte Spain for this timely and impactful investment in girl child education. He expressed full support for the initiative and its potential to transform digital learning in the district, while calling on the school administration, teachers, and students of Wa Islamic Girls Senior High School to take full ownership of the facility, use it responsibly, and ensure it serves the purpose for which it was established. Arantxa Ribot Horas, Director of NASCO Feeding Minds Spain, spoke passionately about the imperative of empowering African youth, noting that Africa holds the most youthful population in the world. She reaffirmed her commitment to continuing to mobilise resources for establishing digital centres across the country, and expressed deep appreciation to the school for the warmth and hospitality extended to the team. The Co-Founder and Executive Director of NASCO Feeding Minds, Banasco Seidu Nuhu spoke with conviction about the critical importance of digital skills for young people across northern Ghana. He emphasised the need to build and enhance capabilities through ICT, and outlined deliberate measures taken to ensure the centre serves its purpose effectively.
Through a partnership with Cisco, a firewall has been installed across all computers to prevent access to explicit content, and certain social media platforms have been restricted, ensuring the facility remains a focused space for learning. He also announced the establishment of a coding club, designed to identify and nurture girls with interest in programming and give their talents the platform they deserve.
A particularly memorable moment came when the school honoured the NASCO Feeding Minds team with traditionally woven smocks, the Batakari, a beautiful gesture that spoke volumes about the culture, appreciation, and hospitality of the people of Northern Ghana.
