As the rainy season sets in, the Greater Accra Region continues to grapple with torrential rains and threat of flooding in some parts of the capital city.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has also warned that more heavy rains in imminent during this year’s rainy season.
It is against this background that the Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo has outlined the region’s preparedness towards the 2026 rainy season, together with the MMDAs, NaDMO, and Security Agencies.

During a press briefing on Thursday, 28th May, 2026, she also outlined the collective measures put in place to prevent flooding and safeguard lives as well as properties in communities.
Hon. Ocloo acknowledged the onset of the rain has already caused havoc in some parts of the region and urged members of the public to adhere to safety advisories.
She stated that “key interventions currently ongoing in the region include the desilting of drain and gutters, removal of refuse and obstructions from drainage channel, inspection of water ways, demolition of unauthorised structures obstructing the free flow of water, and intensifying public education campaigns. It is well noting that rains are unavoidable and we must play our roles.”
“Emergency response teams at both regional and districts level have been activated and are working closely with the GNFS, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and National Ambulance Service to ensure rapid response during emergencies. Relief items including food supplies, mattresses, blankets, first-aid kits, and live jackets have also been positioned at strategic locations across the Region,” she added.
The Regional Minister also noted that “safe havens and temporal shelters including selected schools, community centres, Assembly halls religious institutions, and government facilities located on safer grounds have been identified to support evacuation efforts where necessary.”
