With youth development and civic engagement at the forefront of President Mahama-led government’s agenda, efforts to instill national values and equip young Ghanaians with the tools to thrive in a modern economy remain paramount.
It is against this background that the National Youth Authority (NYA), has launched the 2026 National Youth Month Celebration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
Launched under the theme, “Rebuilding Values, Inspiring Patriotism: Empowering the Youth in the Digital Age”, this year’s edition seeks to position young people as drivers of the national development.
Speaking at the launch, the CEO of the National Youth Authority, Mr Osman Abdulai Ayariga, Esq. who delivered the overview of the celebration highlighted that these are not ceremonial events but strategic platforms to reorient mindsets, inspire responsibility, leadership, and rekindle the commitment to national development that this generation is fully capable of.
“Nationwide, young people will be involved in community outreach, volunteer services, engagement with traditional and faith leaders, parliamentary, intergenerational dialogues, exhibitions, conferences, and regional platforms. All designed to deepen national consciousness and social cohesion,” he noted.
The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment Hon. George Opare Addo stated that “these are not ceremonial events but are strategic platforms to reorient mindsets, inspire responsibility, leadership, and rekindle the commitment to national development that this generation is fully capable of.”
He also charged the youth to be ambassadors of clean environment by adopting a drain in their frontage, during this month-long celebration.
Among the activities lined-up for the month-long celebration include a nationwide youth cleanup exercise on 1st August in the Ablekuma Central Municipality, before youth engagement sessions from the 2nd to 7th August.
The National Youth Conference at KNUST in Kumasi from 10th to 13th August. Between 16th to 19th August, a National Youth Parliament mock sitting will be held, with venue to be announced in a later date. There will also be an Inter-Agency Football Gala at the Accra Sports Stadium on 21st August, and an Intergenerational Dialogue on 25th August.
With a packed calendar of activities and a clear focus on values, skills, and civic duty, the 2026 National Youth Month Celebration is expected to build a generation that leads with integrity, innovates for the digital age, and chooses to build their future right here in Ghana.
