At least six people have died and several others injured as stampede occurs during the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
Reports on Wednesday morning also reveals five (5) persons are also in critical condition and are receiving medical attention at the ICU of the 37 Military Hospital.
The Ghana Armed Forces have since released a statement to this unfortunate incident.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols,” part of the statement reads.
Meanwhile, the Service has debunked reports that the number has surged to twelve.
“Reference the unfortunate incident that occurred at El-Wak sports stadium this morning, 12 Nov 25, concerning the recruitment exercise, the death toll remains 6. The public should treat any other reportage as false. The Ghana Armed Forces will keep updating the General public of any developments,” the statement said.
In a related development, H.E John Dramani Mahama has visited the victims at the 37 Miitary Hospital where he received briefing from medical officers on duty.
